Where in the world is Chris Bangle

Former BMW design chief Chris Bangle is building a home and a design studio 40 miles south of Turin, money clips, Italy, in the Piedmont wine country.

He owns two vineyards, but Bangle says he’ll let local farmers take care of the grape growing and wine making. Bangle, 52, is back doing what he loves best – designing stuff.

His new company, shop for tiffany Pendants, Chris Bangle Associates, has to stay out of the automotive business until at least March of next year per his contract with BMW. So the bearded, tiffany necklaces on sale, boyish one says he’s busy lining up industrial clients.

Bangle, an American who spent his career in Europe, left BMW last March after 17 years with the company and 28 years in the auto business. Through his company, Bangle says he will return to cars in four or five years with "a fresh perspective."

He says his new business is still in startup mode but mat he has lined up some clients. He won’t say who they are.

"A wide range of products and services have talked to me,discount tiffany, and I have talked to them," Bangle said.

He’ll also do some consulting.

"After all, cheap tiffany key rings, I have been a design manager for over 20 years," he said. "You try to bring more out of creative people than they ever thought possible. But you also try to show companies that you have worked with where creativity can really bring them something and perhaps some strategies that they can go about improving it."

Bangle was hired by General Motors straight out of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, Calif., and sent to the carmaker’s German subsidiary, Adam Opel. Bangle worked at Opel from 1981 to 1985 and then moved to Fiat.

He shifted to BMW in 1992 to become head of design. At times he was controversial. His 2001 7 series drew loads of criticism, then lots of imitators.

Bangle hasn’t completely removed himself from things automotive. He’s working on a presentation for the Icsid World Design Congress in Singapore in November focusing on the challenges of personal, emotional mobility in 2050.

He says he’ll deliver a blunt message. "Cars are becoming uninspiring," Bangle says.

By 2050, he says, "It is hard to imagine the love affair that we have enjoyed with sculpted metal in the sense that we know it today still being a major driving factor for young people."

For older, wiser Bangles, the road is more fun

Things aren’t so manic for the Bangles these days.

The all-girl band known for "Manic Monday" and "Walk Like an Egyptian" saw a career that was a rollercoaster ride during its ’80s heyday.

But the band’s singer-drummer Debbi Peterson says today’s Bangles, which include singer Susanna Hoffs and her sister, earrings, guitarist Vicki Peterson, are different.

"We don’t go on the road so much. We all have kids, discount tiffany," Peterson says. "In the ’80s we were on the road for six months at a time and when we weren’t on the road we were making an album. We were living and breathing the Bangles."

The Bangles made their mark in much the same way at the Go-Gos — an all-female group whose members played their own instruments and who weren’t brought together by a male Svengali figure.

"That’s what I want people to know about us," Peterson says. "We played instruments, tiffany on sale, wrote songs and sang. It wasn’t a manufactured thing."

Albums such as 1984′s "All Over the Place, tiffany," 1986′s "Different Light" and 1988′s "Everything" kept that dream alive and made it good to be a Bangle.

The best part of it, she says, outside of performing for hordes of fans, was meeting many of their peers: riding in an elevator with Keith Richards, recording with Prince, having dinner with Duran Duran.

"It’s those fun little things we were able to do that otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to do. Some of the things I don’t even remember."

But things soon soured. As the band’s popularity grew, buy tiffany, Peterson says, the record label pushed Hoffs into the spotlight at the expense of the other band members.

"We felt like sidemen. We all put our heart and soul and sweat into it. We felt the powers that be were making us into something we weren’t, and that was frustrating."

Peterson says it was stressful watching the group become Susanna Hoffs and the Bangles. That, coupled with some tours in the late ’80s during which "weird things were happening and everything went wrong," led to the dissolution of the group.

After going their separate ways, the members reformed and in 2003 released "Doll Revolution." The group is currently working on a new album with producer Matthew Sweet.

Before getting back together, they all had to discuss their feelings about Hoffs.

"We realize she’s obviously going to get more attention," Peterson says. "But it’s not that important. We’re older and wiser, and we have different priorities going on."

Governor Quinn Signs Bill to Reduce Harmful Metal

Gov. Pat Quinn, D-Ill.,Charm bracelet, issued the following news release:

Governor Pat Quinn today signed a bill into law that will protect children from being exposed to jewelry containing high levels of cadmium, a harmful metal that can cause illness. The new law enhances existing federal regulations. "Parents should be confident that children’s jewelry is free from harmful materials," said Governor Quinn. "This bill gives them that assurance, and protects the health of children throughout Illinois."

House Bill 5040,tiffany bracelets, sponsored by Rep. Naomi Jakobsson (D-Champaign) and Sen. Mattie Hunter (D-Chicago), prohibits the manufacturing, sale or distribution of any children’s jewelry that contains cadmium in any paint or surface coating that exceeds 75 parts per million.

Cadmium is a metal found in small quantities in rocks and soil, discount tiffany, and is also a byproduct of the production of other metals. Its main use is in batteries, with other smaller uses in pigments, coatings and platings. People are routinely exposed to low levels of cadmium, mainly through food and smoking.

People who have been exposed to high levels of cadmium in food or water suffered intestinal irritation and damage, leading to vomiting and diarrhea. Exposure to lower levels of cadmium over a longer time period results in accumulation of cadmium mainly in the kidneys and also the liver. Build-up of cadmium in the kidneys over time can eventually lead to kidney damage, tiffany money clips, and long time exposure can also cause bones to become fragile.

The new law will help reduce or eliminate children’s exposure to cadmium by strictly limiting their content in certain children’s products.

The law passed the Illinois General Assembly unanimously and is effective immediately.

Drove burning pickup truck into ex-boyfriend’s hou

A 60-year-old woman who drove a burning pickup truck into the Brighton home of her estranged boyfriend last year was sentenced to six years in prison Monday for her guilty plea to an attempted murder charge.

Connie S. Graham, 60, formerly of Brighton, was sentenced in Jersey County Circuit Court, where she entered the guilty plea last month during what was to have been her pre-trial hearing.

Graham initially had faced a charge of criminal damage to property after the incident last November. But in December, a grand jury in Jersey County indicted her on charges of arson and attempted murder.

Graham admitted she had driven a burning 2010 Ford F-150 XLT pickup belonging to Roberts Motors of Alton into the home of Leslie Goheen at 15621 State Highway 111,Charm pendant, in Brighton, last Nov. 27.

Several people were in the Goheen home at the time Graham rammed the burning truck into the front porch. No one was injured, but the residence caught fire and sustained more than $100,000 in damages. Graham had locked herself inside the cab of the pickup truck, but an occupant of the Goheen home pulled her from the burning vehicle.

The indictment that charged her with arson stated that she knowingly set fire to the property of Roberts Motors — namely, the pickup truck she allegedly was test-driving — damaging the vehicle in excess of $150. The indictment also charged her with attempted murder in that she drove the burning vehicle into the Goheen home, knowing such an act created a strong possibility of death or great bodily harm to Goheen.

At last month’s pretrial hearing, tiffany, Graham entered a plea of guilty to attempted murder, and the charges of arson and criminal damage to property were dismissed.

Jersey County Public Defender Scott Schultz was appointed her public defender, and Graham had been found fit to stand trial.

A conviction of attempted murder can carry a penalty ranging from one to 14 years in prison, tiffany necklaces, and Graham must serve 85 percent of her sentence, discount tiffany, Jersey County Circuit Judge Eric Pistorius said last month.

On Monday, Pistorius sentenced Graham to six years in the Illinois Department of Corrections.

Cleanup help, clothing, food pour in for victims

After a tornado hit Fulton County Saturday night, Drew Fox left his house just hours later to see if anyone needed help.

Mr. Fox, 32, who lives in Delta, Ohio, about four miles from where the tornado struck, stayed out for more than four hours volunteering to help people nearby find personal items and pets. His wife, Sara, 30, offered pasture room and stalls for tornado victims who needed a place to put their horses.

"I hope to God someone would help me if I was in this situation," Mr. Fox said.

Mr. Fox is one of many individuals and organizations that have donated services and supplies to assist victims of the tornadoes in northwest Ohio and southeast Michigan over the weekend. Volunteers are continuing to organize to help cleanup efforts and provide food and other supplies.

Wood County officials have asked United Way’s Volunteer Center, which usually connects people with volunteer opportunities, to set up a reception center to direct volunteers and victims to a central location, said Kelli Kreps, a spokesman for United Way.

The center was set up at noon yesterday at Grace United Methodist Church on East Boundary Street in Perrysburg and can be reached by calling the number 211. As of 3:30 p.m. yesterday, United Way had received 430 calls, including 180 from volunteers, about tornado relief efforts, Ms. Kreps said.

Not only individuals but also businesses — including Lowe’s, ProMedica, and UPS — have contacted United Way to offer supplies, such as gloves for workers.

Volunteers are to be sent out today from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to help with cleanup of Wood County, she said.

The American Red Cross also has been working with United Way to provide volunteers trained to deal with disasters, said Peggy Holewinski, development officer for the Toledo area’s Red Cross.

A smaller organization, ISOH/IMPACT, which has donated about five million meals this year to victims of national and international crises, started a program called the Bucket Brigade to collect food and most supplies, not including clothing, for the tornado victims and for later disasters, said Linda Greene, the group’s president.

"I heard through the Weather Channel that natural disasters will be high this year," she said. "There always seems to be a disaster on the road."

Donations can be dropped off at any area Tireman Auto Service Center, at ISOH/IMPACT’s warehouse on Farnsworth Road in Waterville, and at the POD Container in Levis Commons.

The Salvation Army is among other organizations coordinating volunteer responses and accepting donations.

Individuals near the affected areas are trying to help out in any way they can.

Tracy Ulrich, owner of Lil Rascals Clothing and More in Oregon, decided to donate 15 percent of this week’s profits to help tornado victims in Walbridge and Millbury. Estimating using last week’s revenue, Ms. Ulrich, 44, said the donation would be about $300, and she might continue the effort into next week.

Though she does not know anyone affected, she said most of her customers come from affected areas, and she was moved by the disaster.

Similarly Andy Katona, 48,tiffany cuff Links, who lives in Columbus, hours away from the disaster, discount tiffany, said he read about the tornado yesterday and decided to organize volunteers to help clean up.

He is the assistant organizer for a group called the 912 Project, and he said it might help the victims to know that there are people outside of the area who want to help. "As soon as they can get the mess cleaned up and not have to see it all the time or worry about it, the better off they’ll be," he said.

A few people have put up advertisements on the Web site craigslist.com, either offering donations or asking for assistance.

Duaine Wohlers, 43, owner of the Clinton Thrift Store in Clinton, Mich., said he advertised his store’s donation of clothing and supplies on craigslist.com yesterday morning because it was the fastest way to spread the word. He said no one has yet contacted him about the ad. "[The tornado victims and volunteers] are welcome to come and take what they need," he said.

To aid cleanup efforts, the city of Toledo offered landfill space to any affected home-

owners. Jen Sorgenfrei, tiffany pendants, spokesman for Mayor Mike Bell, said property owners may take debris to the Hoffman Road Landfill and dispose of it for free.

Mayor Bell and the city’s fire and police chiefs offered assistance Sunday to all of the affected communities, tiffany bracelets, Ms. Sorgenfrei said.

Clothing Retailers and Elementary School Students

PriceGrabber(R), a part of Experian, just released the Back-to-School Shopping Consumer Behavior Report, which was conducted between May 12 and June 1, 2010, and includes responses from 1,718 online consumers. Survey data reveals that shoppers are allocating their budgets differently this year, with a shift to gadget purchases for elementary students, increases in clothing purchases for all age groups and reduced back-to-school budgets for high school students.

Plans to purchase gadgets for elementary students double since 2009

As discussed in PriceGrabber’s first back-to-school shopping press release, back-to-school shoppers are making significant efforts to stay within their budget this year. Survey data also reveals that shoppers are allocating their budgets differently, which has created some interesting shifts in year-over-year consumer behavior.

One shift in back-to-school purchasing behavior involves the number of gadgets that will be purchased for elementary school students; that figure has almost doubled since last year. This year, 15 percent of elementary school students will start school with a new laptop, 13 percent will have computer accessories, and 10 percent will receive a new cell phone or smartphone. This is a significant change from 2009, when 7 percent of elementary school students received a laptop, 7 percent received computer accessories and 6 percent had a new cell phone or smartphone.

Clothing purchases expected to increase for all age groups year over year

Additionally, discount tiffany, the intent to purchase back-to-school clothing increased for all age groups compared with last year. Eighty-five percent of back-to-school shoppers plan to purchase clothing for elementary school students this year, compared with 78 percent last year. In 2010, 82 percent plan to purchase clothing for middle school students, compared with 77 percent in 2009. Eighty-four percent plan to purchase clothing for high school students, tiffany bangles, up from 74 percent in 2009. This year, 60 percent of shoppers are buying clothing for college students, compared with 47 percent last year.

"The trends we are seeing in shoppers’ back-to-school clothing purchases this year indicate that although they continue to be focused on budget-minded spending, older students in particular are expanding their wardrobes which would indicate a shift towards discretionary clothing purchases. This demonstrates consumers are feeling more confident about the economy this year than last," stated Laura Conrad, president of PriceGrabber.

Back-to-school technology budgets for high school students are lower than other age groups

Survey data also revealed that back-to-school shoppers plan to spend less on items for high school students than on other age groups. Fifty percent of back-to-school shoppers plan to spend more than $250 on high school students (9th-12th grade). Back-to-school shoppers plan to spend even more on elementary school students, with 52 percent planning to spend $250 and more on elementary school students (K-5th grade). This is followed by 62 percent of back-to-school shoppers who plan to spend more than $250 on middle/junior high school students (6th-8th grade) and 67 percent planning to spend more than $250 on college/junior college students (higher than 12th grade).

"Laptops and other electronics are the most expensive items on most back-to-school shopping lists. The increase in gadgets purchased for elementary school students has forced parents to increase the overall budget at an earlier age, tiffany bracelets," said Barbary Brunner, chief marketing officer at PriceGrabber. "However, the survey data implies that while some parents are purchasing laptops and electronics for high school students, other parents are forgoing the purchase of the latest and greatest new technology for high schoolers who already have late-model devices."

Last-minute price drops and mobile shopping help consumers stay on budget

While back-to-school shoppers are planning to spend more in certain areas, they still are looking for the best value. Fifty-one percent of consumers reveal that they plan to make last-minute purchases in order to take advantage of price drops.

Many consumers also are turning to their mobile phones to help ensure they are getting the best deals. Seventeen percent of back-to-school shoppers plan to use their mobile phones to comparison-shop while in brick-and-mortar stores. Consumers are not only comparison-shopping from their mobile phones, but 7 percent also plan to do standalone shopping from their phones.

Mother, father farewell their sons

SHEPPARTON, Vic, July 16 AAP – Tyler and Chase Robinson would tip-toe to their dad Scott’s room in the middle of the night, climb into bed then wrap themselves around him.

Scott would massage their heads until they fell fast asleep.

He loved hearing those footsteps approach his room, but he’ll never hear that sound again.

Tyler, aged seven, tiffany rings, and nine-year-old Chase were farewelled at a deeply emotional funeral on Friday, tiffany bangles, almost six weeks after they died in their sleep from carbon monoxide poisoning – the deadly legacy of a faulty gas heater at their Mooroopna home in northern Victoria.

There wasn’t a dry eye at the overflowing St Augustine’s Anglican Church in Shepparton as Scott Robinson took time to compose himself before delivering a powerful and heartfelt tribute on behalf of him and the boys’ mother, his estranged wife Vanessa Robinson.

The church was decorated with jungle animals stuck on the walls while the boys’ favourite African-themed music played.

There were also written tributes and a collage of photos of the laughing, cheeky-looking brothers.

Mr Robinson said Chase surprised his parents when he was reading newspapers by the age of five, while Tyler was a "man’s boy" and fearless on a motorbike.

They were so different yet inseparable.

"The thing I will miss the most is the waking up in the middle of the night hearing one set of footsteps all the way to my room, tiffany pendants, then feeling arms and legs wrapping around me, not long after the next one would follow and my other side would get the same treatment," Mr Robinson told mourners, choking back tears.

"I would then give you both head massages until you both fell asleep.

"We will never be able to hear your voices call mummy or daddy except when we dream about you every night."

Ms Robinson, who spent weeks in hospital recovering from the gas leak on May 29, sobbed throughout the ceremony and was comforted by family and friends.

The boys were buried together, side by side, in one wide, white coffin – together in death as in life.

The large crowd of mourners included many crying children, some of them classmates of Tyler and Chase’s at Mooroopna Primary School, and members of the Ardmona Netball Club, discount tiffany, where Ms Robinson is a member.

Ms Robinson was initially questioned by police who said the deaths were suspicious but was quickly cleared after tests at the house revealed the gas leak.

The coroner investigated the boys’ deaths and Energy Safe Victoria tested gas appliances in the home.
