A local youth football league does not have to register a child who was denied entry because of previous conflicts between the boy’s parents and league officials, a judge ruled Thursday.
Tulsa District Court Judge Rebecca Scott Nightingale denied a temporary injunction Thursday afternoon brought by 12-year-old Brayden Mathis’s mother, whose request to enroll her son in sixth-grade football with the Indian Nations Football Conference was denied late last month.
The boy’s father sued the INFC three years ago when the conference denied a request to transfer the boy to a team in the Jenks School District, even though the family was living in the Union district area.
A different judge ruled then that Brayden should be allowed to play in Jenks, although further complications arose when the family did not move into the Jenks district in accordance with the agreement.
The family did eventually move to the Jenks district and has lived there since. Brayden played in a different conference that his father created for fourth and fifth grade, but requested to play sixth grade with Jenks in the INFC.
The boy, who kept his head down during most of the hearing and cried as he took the stand, said he wanted to play with his friends.
"I want to play football with my friends from school,Atlas charm bracelet, and I want to wear a jersey with my school’s name on it on Friday," he said.
Tom Askew, cuff Links, attorney for the INFC, said the organization must have rules to avoid chaos and was in keeping with its regulations when
it denied the Mathises most recent request.
Conference officials acknowledged the punishment was harsh but said it was the only way to proceed because experience showed that the boy’s father, Tony, would not honor any agreements with the conference and would not abide by its rules.
Tony Mathis was banned from all INFC events in 2007 but still attended two games and was escorted out, conference officials said.
All the witnesses in Thursday’s hearing said the child had broken no rules and they had heard nothing but good things about him.
Dana Mathis testified that she brought the suit this year to avoid bad blood between her husband and the league. She was not familiar with many details of the previous court events and said her husband handled Brayden’s football playing.
"I’m the wife, tiffany," she said when asked about league specifics. "I don’t know."
Nightingale agreed with the INFC, ruling that the Mathises had not shown irreparable harm and had not proven that the INFC had acted beyond its capacity.
One of the INFC commissioners testified that Brayden could play in other leagues during sixth grade, bracelets, and so had options beyond Jenks.
After the judge read her ruling, Brayden cried and huddled with his mother, Dana. His father was not present in the courtroom.
"Often the rights of the many have to prevail over the rights of one for an organization the size of the INFC to operate," Nightingale said.
The INFC has registered about 10,000 children for the 2010 football season,Beads necklace, which runs about 10 weeks.

The photos flashed slowly on the screen.
Rachel, smiling, in a tiara.
Rachel, smiling,earrings, dressed in a polka-dot dress.
Rachel, smiling, clad in blue overalls and lounging on a chair.
Rachel, always smiling.
Those who remember 12-year-old Rachel Marie Cusick, who died Aug. 21 after a fire at her Dickson City home, immediately mention her smile.
"Oh, dear God, she’s such a precious little girl," said Marc Luciano of Clarks Summit. He knows the Cusick family from the Crown Flea Market in Eynon, where they had neighboring stores.
Mr. Luciano was just one of the many mourners who came to pay their respects at Rachel’s viewing Friday at Kearney Funeral Home Inc.,Bead bracelet, where the line stretched out the front door. He’s known Rachel about a year and was most struck by "her kindness and her beautiful, infectious smile."
"She was such a sweetheart," Mr. Luciano said. "I’m so heartbroken, I can barely even talk about it."
Surrounded by displays of flowers and three flickering tea lights was a framed photo of Rachel cradling her miniature Chihuahua,Beads necklace, Chloe.
Of course, Rachel was smiling.
Mr. Luciano flips open his cell phone to reveal a photo of his miniature Chihuahua, Clio, Chloe’s littermate. The two dogs would sometimes play together at the Eynon Flea Fair.
Friday’s viewing had subtle nods toward a young girl whose life ended much too soon. The daughter of Patrick and Laurie Schuler Cusick, Rachel would have celebrated her 13th birthday on Sept. 30.
Flower displays were decorated with pink blossoms and pink ribbons. A butterfly replica was perched among the petals of another display. The photo montage played on a continuous loop, to the song "Wind Beneath My Wings." At the end of the montage, the words "forever in our hearts" flashed on the screen.
"I was annihilated," Mr. Luciano said of hearing the news about Rachel. "I was so devastated. I mean, bracelets, it’s a tragedy."
As of Friday evening, Mrs. Cusick, pendants, 40, and daughter Amanda, 6, were still in critical condition at Lehigh Valley Hospital from the fire that broke out along the family’s 611 Dundaff St. home.
Mr. Cusick and son, C.J. Crespo, 16, suffered lesser injuries and were released from Scranton hospitals. A state police fire marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
Eleanore Huddy lives on Lackawanna Avenue in Olyphant, beside Rachel’s mother’s business, Lollipop Lane.
"I can’t tell you how close the family was," Ms. Huddy said. "If you saw Rachel smiling, that’s just the way she was."
Father Richard Burke of St. Ann’s Basilica came to pay his respects Friday. Rachel’s grandparents Bill and Peg Cusick are volunteers and ministers at St. Ann’s.
"That’s all that Bill and Peg talk about, the children and grandchildren," Father Burke said.
They undoubtedly told a few stories about Rachel, always smiling.

Andrea Hanson scored three goals and Erin Booth had a goal and three assists to power the Bemidji girls soccer team to a 6-1 home victory over Little Falls Friday in the season opener.
BHS resumes its schedule 1 p.m. today at Walker-Hackensack-Akeley and Tuesday it will visit Moorhead.
"Offensively we dominated and we were able to manufacture many good shots,Beads necklace," said Jacks coach Kelly Schoonover. "We started strong with four goals in the first half but, as expected, we tired in the second half.
"This was a test of endurance and overall we did well,Charm pendant," Schoonover said.
Bemidji scored all the goals it would need in the opening 40 minutes. Booth opened the scoring about 12 minutes in and eight minutes later Hanson notched her first of the fall. Rachelle LeBlanc drew the Flyers within 2-1 midway through the half but Booth and Maari Stocker answered in the final 10 minutes to give the Jacks their 4-1 cushion.
Hanson iced the victory with a pair of goals in the second stanza.
Paige Niskanen, Caitlin Blotske and Josie Spry also had assists.
Casey Palmer and Whitney Morin combined for three saves in the Bemidji net.
The midfield transition game is something BHS coach Rick Toward thought would take time to develop and Friday’s 2-0 home loss to Little Falls showed that he was correct.
"There were moments when we played well and possessed the ball but we had trouble transitioning," Toward said.
"For eight or nine minutes early in the game we controlled play but we couldn’t sustain it,watches," Toward said
"It was a frustrating game but it’s early in the season and we know we have improvements to make.
Grant Bell scored both Little Falls goals. Early in the first half he capped a flurry with a close-range goal and in the second half he scored on a penalty kick.
Carl Graefe and Connor McNallan split the goaltending chores.
BHS will continue its homestand 3 p.m. today against Hillcrest Lutheran Academy. Tuesday the Jacks will host Detroit Lakes at 4 p.m.
The Lumberjack swimmers head to Willmar today for the annual season-opening invitational.
BHS coach Scott Leindecker is anxious to see how his team will compete today because graduation claimed seven key performers and this year’s team could be spearheaded by underclassmen.
"It’s going to take us awhile to come together," Leindecker predicted. "I really won’t know what we have until I see the girls in competition.
"But I’m cautiously optimistic,Bead bracelet," the coach added.
Bemidji will also be on the road Tuesday when it visits Brainerd.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell, R-Conn.,Atlas charm bracelet, issued the following news release:
Governor M. Jodi Rell today announced that CVS Caremark – which was considering ending its Health Savings Pass pharmacy discount program – informed her that the program will continue. The company’s decision comes after Governor Rell wrote company officials in June questioning whether canceling the discount program might be an attempt by CVS to avoid complying with a new state law that requires pharmacies to give patients using taxpayer-funded Medicaid the same savings given to the public.
In her June 19 letter, Governor Rell also asked state Attorney General Richard Blumenthal to look into the proposed CVS policy change. The effect of the change would have been to eliminate a discount policy for numerous Connecticut consumers.
Governor Rell received a letter today from Elizabeth S. Wingate, cuff Links, Senior Vice President of CVS Caremark, watches, who said the company had decided "after much consideration" that it will not suspend the Health Savings Pass program.
"We will work with (the state Department of Social Services) in the near future to resolve any issues related to the application of CVS discount program pricing to state Medicaid reimbursement," Wingate said in a letter to the Governor. CVS said it recognizes "the importance of continuing to serve individuals and families who may not otherwise have access to prescription coverage."
"This is a victory for Connecticut – a victory for consumers, who count on discount programs like the Health Savings Pass, necklaces, and a victory for taxpayers, who will benefit from the savings our state will achieve under the new law,Beads necklace," Governor Rell said. "The goal of the new law is nothing less than simple fairness – to ensure that Medicaid customers get the same treatment other customers receive when they shop for prescriptions. I am grateful that CVS has opted to join the other pharmacies in Connecticut that are participating in this program."
The law in question is Section 17 of Public Act 10-179, which requires Connecticut pharmacies that offer discounts and savings to the general public to provide those same discounts and savings to individuals on Medicaid. The law was part of the broader budget adjustment legislation passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor on May 7.

Treasury Concludes Three Weeks of Global Engagement with Governments, Private Sector on Iran
Levey, Cohen, Glaser Wrap Up Eight Country Tour; Urge Robust Worldwide Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1929, Outline Financial Provisions of New U.S. Legislation on Iran
WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of the Treasury today announced the conclusion of three weeks of face-to-face global engagement on Iran with governments and the private sectors in Bahrain, Brazil, Ecuador, Japan, Lebanon, money clips, South Korea, Turkey and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) led by Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, Stuart Levey; Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing, David Cohen; and Deputy Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes, Daniel Glaser. Treasury’s leading officials on U.S. sanctions crisscrossed the globe this month, meeting with senior government officials to urge U.S. partners and allies to take bold steps to ensure rigorous, comprehensive implementation of UN Security Council Resolution (UNSCR) 1929 to bolster the impact of the Resolution and additional measures imposed by the United States, European Union and others in recent weeks. Treasury also briefed government officials and banking sector leaders on the financial provisions of the Comprehensive Iran Sanctions, Accountability and Divestment Act (CISADA) and the new Iranian Financial Sanctions Regulations (IFSR) issued this month by Treasury.
Focusing on key financial and commercial centers across the globe, Levey,Charm pendant, Cohen and Glaser traveled to Asia, Latin America and the Middle East to strengthen sanctions efforts and underscore the importance of strong implementation of UNSCR 1929. They were joined by State Department and White House officials to implement the President’s direction to apply targeted financial pressure to deny Iran’s access to the international financial system and further sharpen the choice for Iran. In meetings with senior government officials, bank regulators and banking sector leaders, Treasury officials highlighted the impact that the latest round of sanctions have already begun to have on Iran’s economy – including the Government of Iran’s inability to attract foreign investment, develop its oil and gas fields, acquire financial services and maintain financial relationships with the international community — and making the case for concerted action to persuade the Government of Iran to change its behavior.
"As international pressure mounts and its economic isolation increases, Iran will attempt to seek out new channels to access the international financial system for illicit purposes," said Levey. "It is incumbent upon governments to put into place the appropriate mechanisms to protect against this threat. The U.S. will continue its outreach to governments and the private sector around the world to prevent Iran from exploiting new banks and unwitting partners in furthering its nuclear and missile programs."
During their travels, Treasury officials briefed regulators and members of the banking sector on the financial provisions of CISADA and outlined the potential for foreign financial institutions continuing to do business with individuals or entities designated by the United States to lose access the U.S. financial system. At roundtable discussions with banking associations, Treasury continued its dialogue with the private sector on the need for enhanced vigilance with respect to Iran’s continued efforts to engage in a range of deceptive measures to conduct illicit transactions and evade sanctions. U.S. officials also highlighted the need for intense scrutiny from both regulators and financial institutions of all transactions involving Iran to combat attempts by Iran to establish new and expand existing financial relationships as sanctions tighten.
