Indian gold necklaces lose duty-free status in US

In a blow to Indian jewelers, the US has stopped the duty-free status for gold necklaces from India as the product was found to be competitive in US markets.

Earlier, cheap tiffany key rings, US used to allow duty-free status to certain products from developing countries to help them expand their economies. Other items that have been struck off the duty-free list are passenger tyres from Thailand and wood flooring from Brazil.

After assessing which products should continue to benefit from duty-free treatment under GSP (Generalised System of Preferences), President Barack Obama determined that five products from three beneficiary countries are now sufficiently competitive in the United States.

So, duty-free treatment will be withdrawn for those products, including certain passenger tyres from Thailand, tiffany money clips clearance, wood flooring from Brazil, and gold rope necklaces from India.

In all, tiffany Pendants on sale, the US will continue to provide duty-free treatment to 110 products from 19 beneficiary countries, whose imports exceed the statutory ceilings by only a small amount.

KRATZER IS ‘OFFICER AND A GENTLEMAN’

The University of Florida issued the following news release:

Dave Kratzer has served The Gator Nation for nearly 24 years, including more than four as the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs and almost 20 as the former Director of the Reitz Union. In addition, he is now serving his country as a newly appointed U.S. Army Reserve ambassador.

Kratzer, a retired Army Reserve Major General, was recently appointed as an ambassador by Lt. Gen. Jack Stultz, Commanding General of the U.S. Army Reserve Command.

"It’s an honor," Kratzer said.

Army Reserve Ambassadors are private citizens who serve as liaisons between the Army Reserve and the community. Ambassadors are spokespeople and representatives for the Army Reserve, and are resources and mentors for soldiers and their families.

Ambassadors have a status equal to that of a two-star general. There are two ambassadors per state who serve three-year terms. At the end of their terms, they may apply to be appointed for another three years.

Kratzer’s own military experience makes him well-qualified for the ambassador position. After Sept. 11,thanksgiving earrings, 2001, Kratzer was deployed to Afghanistan for six months, returned to the U.S. for five months, tiffany, and deployed again to Iraq and Kuwait for a year.

"The University of Florida has been wonderful in their support of me," Kratzer said. "I left twice and came back, and my job was still here."

His experience overseas helps him relate to what soldiers are going through now that he serves as a mentor to them. Returning reservists may face financial troubles, job loss, tiffany earrings sale, post-traumatic stress or family issues after being away from home.

"I think they (the Army Reserve Ambassador program) specifically wanted me because I could talk to soldiers and their families," Kratzer said.

Kratzer’s various duties as an ambassador include attending events such as the Yellow Ribbon Reintegration Workshop. The Yellow Ribbon Program reunites soldiers from across the United States after they return home from duty in Iraq or Afghanistan.

For the 30- and 60-day reunions, the soldiers and their families receive an expense-paid trip to Orlando, where many take the opportunity to reunite with men and women with whom they served while stationed overseas.

"The idea is to bring them back together," Kratzer said.

Ninety days after the soldiers returned home, they were invited to a soldiers-only workshop in Jacksonville. The program provided counseling and information regarding employment and the GI Bill. Kratzer addressed the group of soldiers at the recent reunion.

"We help them try to find out what kind of help they need," Kratzer said. "There’s a lot of one-on-one time provided, and a lot of laughs as well."

As an ambassador, Kratzer attends a variety of events. Recently, Kratzer attended a deployment ceremony for a unit in Orlando. He also assists the US Army Recruiting Battalion by supporting such events as GatorNationals, a national drag racing event at Gainesville Raceway, where the Army’s No. 1 racing team drew the attention of approximately 2,000 people.

At UF, Kratzer works with the Collegiate Veterans Society, a voluntary student organization that numbers more than 440 student veterans on campus. He recently assisted the Collegiate Veteran’s Society and UF’s Student Government in planning the dedication ceremony for the new Veterans Memorial at the Reitz Union Amphitheatre. The memorial consists of a fountain, The US and State of Florida flags, a commemorative marker and five granite pillars representing each of the five military branches. "Any day you can spend with soldiers is a great day," Kratzer said. "This is my opportunity to give back to them."For more information please contact: Sarabjit Jagirdar, Email:- htsyndication@hindustantimes.com.

Officers, if not gentlemen

The execution for desertion of a young officer during the first world war goes disastrously wrong. What exactly happened? Who was there, and why have some of those involved met untimely deaths?

This is the crux of a novel that is a marriage of who-done-it and commentary on the class-ridden attitudes of the early 20th century. The action takes place in the immediate wake of the war, when battle damaged men try to adjust to civilian life. One of these, Laurence Bartram,tiffany necklaces for sale, is persuaded to try and find out why a fellow officer, John Emmett, has apparently committed suicide;

the persuader is Emmett’s sister Mary – romance hangs in the air.

The ensuing narrative twists and turns its way from one hypothesis to another, by way of a large cast and much speculative conversation between Laurence and another old comrade-in-arms,discount tiffany key rings, who is given to reading Agatha Christie, while serving as a sort of Watson to Laurence’s Holmes. Period touches abound, effectively enough – there is much poking and riddling of coal fires and consumption of unappetising meals. And the link between the young officers is the writing of samizdat poetry.

The underlying theme of the novel – the rigid social assumptions and prejudices of the day – is subtly interwoven with the fast paced narrative, in which one revelation succeeds another, and just as you think you have spotted a looming denouement a new event subverts everything. A dubious asylum for the mentally ill,shop for tiffany Pendants, in which John Emmett has been incarcerated, is a sinister presence; the NCO who seems to have been the villain of the piece during the execution is perhaps also the rapist and murderer of a French girl. The reader becomes quietly confident – aha! But Agatha Christie is not invoked for nothing;

there is more than a bow here in the direction of classic detective fiction.

That said, discount tiffany earrings, this is also a novel of the first world war, homing in upon that particularly emotive area, the executions for cowardice and desertion – mainly other ranks, very few officers. It seems to be de rigueur now for the novelist to cite sources and declare what is fact and what is fiction; we get three pages here of explanations – informative, but one can be left feeling that the card-index could be less apparent. Background research is indeed essential for this kind of novel, shop for tiffany necklaces, but is best left like the seven-eighths of the iceberg, assumed and invisible.

Elizabeth Speller’s memoir, The Sunlight on the Garden, also cast a shrewd eye on the vagaries of the English class system – in that case on the curious social appositions within her own family, and the ensuing confusions, defiance and pretensions. She made this family history into a vivid and lively narrative; it is no surprise that she has now turned to fiction, though the content and manner of The Return of Captain John Emmett do not allow her to air the talent for dry wit that distinguished the memoir. Next time, maybe.

United States Attorney Rosenstein thanked the Greenbelt Office of the United States Trustee Program, the Department of Justice agency that supervises bankruptcy cases and trustees, for its assistance in this investigation and prosecution.

Eastgate outlasts Demidov to capture his 1st bracelet

Tournament director Jack Effel, who uses his mike to acknowledge celebrity tiffany jewelry players in the crowd at the World Series of Poker, gave a big shout out of another sort Monday.

“Let’s hear it for the money!” said Effel, drawing a roar from fans who had seen a mountain of cash piled high on a table.

Peter Eastgate, a 22-year-old from Denmark who became the youngest player to win the WSOP’s Texas Hold ‘Em Main Event early Tuesday, earned first-place money of $9.15million after beating Ivan Demidov in the longest final in WSOP history.

The two-day final table play took 274 hands and 15 hours, 28 minutes, surpassing the previous long of 14 hours, 10 minutes in 2005.

Despite the endurance, this was not a winner-take-all tournament. Of the 6,844 players who entered, 666 finished in the money. That ran from Eastgate down to finishers 617-666, who made $21,230 for the price of their $10,000 entry fees.

All nine finalists already had been paid $900,670 for at least ninth place. So Kelly Kim, 31, silver earrings of Whittier, Calif., who started the final table with the lowest chip count, was keenly aware what it meant when he finished eighth instead of ninth.

“About 380 (thousand dollars),” Kim said.

Make that an additional $387,547 that Kim got for winning eighth-place money of $1,288,217.

Not that the ninth-place money was chump change for Craig Marquis, 23, of Arlington, Texas, who dropped out of college to pursue professional poker.

“I’ll probably be playing poker for a few years. I have enough money now where I don’t have to sweat the small stuff,” he said.

For second, Demidov, 27, of Moscow, won $5.8million, which is a whole lot more than the $560,000 total that Doyle Brunson got for winning back-to-back Main Events in 1976-77.

Demidov acknowledged he will share most of his winnings with a Russian financial supporter who silver key rings helped him get here.

“I have a backer that pays for me, and, yeah, I’m going to share the monies with him, with him getting more than me,” Demidov said. “Without him, I wouldn’t be able to even come and play here.”

Such deals are not uncommon in poker. Last year, Englishman Jon Kalmar placed fifth and won about $1.26 million. He said he would share his winnings with British pros, who backed him financially.

Eastgate, who won his first WSOP bracelet, said he paid the $10,000 entry fee. Did he receive any backing that might entail sharing his $9.15million?

“That’s confidential,” Eastgate said.

There are other ways in which winnings are shared in poker. Away from high-profile tournaments, silver necklaces pros and amateurs play cash games among themselves.

When poker pro Erick Lindgren received his player of the year award for his overall performance in the 55-event World Series, he passed along a message to Eastgate and Demidov.

“Brunson told me to tell them that there is a cash game when they’re done tonight,” Lindgren said.
